Deconstructing Old Ads with Bill Sonnett

Deconstructing Old Ads with Bill Sonnett

A Triple Feature

Talk about three great items on one page! This page from the May 1908 issue of Sporting Goods Dealer Magazine has three great ones.

First, I know any Norvell-Shapleigh collector would love to find one of these "Diamond Brand" outdoor advertising signs they were offering to dealers.

Next is the only public advertisement I've ever seen or heard of for the very, very rare Haynes Magnet floating bait made in Akron Ohio.

Finally, an almost unnoticed piece in the bottom corner notifying the public that the Wm Shakespeare Jr Co. of Kalamazoo has purchased the Marhoff Reel Co. and hired Walter Marhoff to work for him. Walter Mahoff's patented single-shaft, level-wind device would be used on Shakespeare reels without major changes for the next 70 years!

As a bonus, there is also a pre-Horrocks-Ibbotson UTK ad!
