Deconstructing Old Ads with Bill Sonnett

The Shakespeare Bar-Link Hook Fastener

Collectors have come up with all kinds of terms to name certain lures and their properties. Many are simply not historically correct." A few examples would be "Slopenose," "Neverfail Hardware," "Underwater Expert," and so on. Shakespeare actually had a pretty good name for what collectors have termed "see through plate hardware," but very few collectors (even Shakespeare collectors) seem to be aware of Shakespeare's own terminology. This advertising piece from 1910 tells us the real name was the "Bar-Link Hook Fastener"" along with a few other facts about their minnows.
