Deconstructing Old Ads: A World War l Editorial  -- "Kloroform the Kaiser"

A World War l Editorial  -- "Kloroform the Kaiser"

It is the norm in most "Outdoor" magazines to have an editorial each issue, generally dealing with conservation or a related topic. During periods of War these often take a patriotic bent. Today's submission is not exactly an ad but an editorial from the July 1918 issue of Field & Stream. This was a time when fighting in World War I was at its fiercest. Unless you are of a certain age you will not remember that hostilities ended "on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month" which for many years was remembered as "Armistice Day." As grade school children we stood at 11 am on this day facing France with our hands over our hearts. In 1954 this was changed to "Veteran's day" to include the veterans of all wars.
