As many of you know, our dear friend Ben Wright passed away two weeks ago. I have no doubt he was hard at work on the Spinning Reel Report up until the very end. I've hosted his Reports here on the blog -- with the exception of about ten months -- for almost a decade. It's like an old friend. When I wasn't posting anything else I would always post Ben's column.
Seems a shame not to have it, so I put one together myself. If anyone out there wants to take over/help with the Ben Wright Memorial Spinning Reel Report, please drop me a line.
We miss you Ben, but we won't ever forget you.

Listed as an Abu Cardinal 555? cut-a-way salesman sample exc+ question
is was this a standard model
with the side plate removed ?? it sold @ 99.00
Listed as an Abu Cardinal 33 per seller Grey unpainted rare 1976 exc+
w/wood box for 33CDL foot appears
to be double stamped with S/N 760301
the grey reels are known as test reels by most. one known has 1975
marked on the bottom of the foot.
the problem I have is that the s/n on the foot is marked 760301 which
happens to be for a 33 re-pro
circa 1992.
I did see a grey Zebco cardinal 3 many years ago.
was listed with a starting bid of 500.00 with no bids was re-listed with
a current bid of 310.00 will be re- listed
in my Nov report.

Listed as an Abu Cardinal 33 per seller Grey unpainted rare 1976 exc+
w/wood box for 33CDL foot appears
to be double stamped with S/N 760301
the grey reels are known as test reels by most. one known has 1975
marked on the bottom of the foot.
the problem I have is that the s/n on the foot is marked 760301 which
happens to be for a 33 re-pro
circa 1992.
I did see a grey Zebco cardinal 3 many years ago.
was listed with a starting bid of 500.00 with no bids was re-listed with
a current bid of 310.00 will be re- listed
in my Nov report.

Was a SEAMASTER listed as the rarest ever prototype with a skirted spool !!
exc- starting price $ 14,500.00 and with a buy-it-now @ $20,000.00
BUT was the modification done by Bob McChristian (Capt Mac) who was the
original maker of these reels ???
ORCA member and Seamaster expert Ed Pritchard and I agree that we do
not think that it was modified by Captain Mac but we Don't think any one knows for sure. if
the seller could only prove it !!! time will tell we hope !! THERE WERE "NO" BIDS

Listed were not one but two (2) super rare Cortland spin reels. both by same seller, both were exc+ but missing
sticker decal. they were made by Alcedo of Italy.
Did seller have a clue of what he was selling ? not one bit !! one was listed with a buy-it- now of $180.00 while the other one was listed with a starting price of $9.99 not long after one was ended by seller because there was an error in listing (sure there was !) and shortly after that the other one was no longer available !!
Did I email seller and tell him what he had? YUP did I ever hear back from him NOPE and didn't think I would. sure wish I knew what they sold for and who get them oh well just another day on the bay !!
