This blog deals with our outdoor heritage. It concentrates in particular on the history of fishing and fishing tackle, and seeks to provide interesting, informative, and important materials for anyone who wants to help preserve our nation's (and the world's) fishing. ©2007-2014 Dr. Todd Larson.
They are fishing for huge trout in the Soo Rapids. I have seen an old silent movie of this and Ray Bergman wrote about it in "Trout". This is the location that he speaks of where the local favorite fly for this fishing was a streamer made from Bali Duck feathers. Just this last year I mentioned to a supplier that I had a few Bali duck feathers in some well preserved fly tying materials from the 30's. He ask if he could have them as a customer was asking for them and they had not been able to locate any anywhere. I told him his customer must be reading Ray Bergman and he immediately said that's exactly right. I gave him the feathers which look more minnow like than any I've ever seen.
Neat pic, to think how we fish now compaired to then.
